3 MONTHS WITHOUT LUGGAGE

I flew from Sydney to Denpasar (Bali) airport on January 1st 2011 and from the moment I saw my bag leave on the conveyor belt there were problems.

First of all, the lady who checked me in sent me to the completely wrong terminal and I nearly missed my flight. Then when I arrived in Denpasar airport, my luggage was nowhere to be seen. When I reported my bag lost it seemed that no one really cared, and being in a foreign country just made matters worst. I was only in Bali for 3 days before heading out to Kuala Lumper for one night, followed by Borneo for the remainder of my holiday. Once my report was lodged I was told it could take up to two days for my bag to arrive. They told me 5 others from the same flight also had missing bags. I'd like to know who those people are. They could not track or trace any of the missing bags, so basically they had no idea.

I advised the hotel where I stayed of my loss, and every morning, afternoon and evening I would ask the hotel reception if my bag had arrived. All I got was no. During my 3 days in Bali I had to buy the bare necessities jus to get by. I rang Jetstar everyday to check on progress to no avail. It was almost impossible to get through to anyone as Jetstar head office is in Malaysia! I spent hundreds on phone calls to sydney airport trying to shed some light on the matter but I was always promised someone would call me but no one ever did.

As I made my way to Kuala Lumper on day 3 all hope was lost. I advised the airport that I was leaving the country and to send my bag home if it was located. I carried on with the remainder of my holiday without luggage and was eager to touch down in Sydney to get answers.

Upon my arrival to Sydney airport I presented to the lost baggage department demanding answers. They said I needed to speak with Jetstar to sort the matter out, and had to wait for a flight to open to talk to somebody (remember - there is no Jetstar office in Sydney). An hour later when a flight opened, I grilled them for any information on the whereabouts of my luggage. They had no idea but told me to email the head offie in Malaysia to complete a lost baggage claim form. Dealing with Malasyia was bad enough. I rang them every day to see which ports they had checked to see where my bag was. They told me they only checked Sydney and Denpasar. I urged them to check all other ports. I could have gone on another flight. They never checked and I just simply gave up.

Then, 3 months later, after writing my bag off as lost and never to be seen again, I got a call one random Saturday morning from Air New Zealand in Auckland. They guy tells me he has a bag matching the description of the one I reported missing. He opened the bag and as he started to name a few of the contents within it - I knew it was mine! So, after all this time, my bag had gone to Auckland, and I had gone to Bali!!!! That same Saturday evening I had to physically go down to the airport to collect my bag. It was sent Air New Zealand as the guy didn't want to send it on Jetstar - "I don't trust them" he said.

I was very thankful that I got my bag back, even after 3 months. There were items it it that cannot be replaced. The trouble I went through with Jetstar is not worth the cheap flights they offer. Because when something goes wrong - they don't care. My holiday was ruined because of them and resulted in unexpected expenses - I saved for months for my holiday and spent my money on things that I shouldn't have had to buy. DON'T FLY JETSTAR!

If I'm not mistaken, the call centre had moved from Malaysia to Philippines ..

Correct. And there is no head

Correct. And there is no head office in Malaysia. Never has been. Only a call centre used to be. Jetstar Australia head office is in Melbourne. Jetstar Asia head office is in Singapore. Jetstar Pacific is who knows.

my daughter n bf flew 2 bali

my daughter n bf flew 2 bali last sunday with pacific blue - hebaggage - now day 4 they have no idea where her bag is she is still wearing the shorts n singlet top she wore 2 the airport on sunday morning - she went on this holiday with very limited funds - she has had to spend a fortune on phone calls n taxis n she is now almost unconsolable - the people she traveled with now think she is ruining their holiday - the pacific blue have been helpful enough i guess but i dont understand how one small bag can disappear without a trace - no money or compensation can cover the stress that she has suffered this week! how does this happen - being her mum n hearing her sobbing over the phone from the other side of the earth is breaking my heart but i an powerless to help n pacific are 'doing there best' - i think this will b the last time she travels or the last time she ever leaves her bags with anyone! any light would be much appreciated!

By the sound of the Jetstar

By the sound of the Jetstar CSR I think the call centre is in the Phillipines, not Malaysia. Its a sad story but to me it sounds like either you bag was marked incorrectly by Jetstar staff or Sydney Baggage Handlers put it on the wrong plane.

Lost baggage is something which happens to all airlines and its unfortunate and painful. However to prevent it ruining your holiday perhaps you should consider TRAVEL INSURANCE next time..

To the lady with the daughter

To the lady with the daughter in Bali at the moment without her bag - I would consider finding out what other flights Jetstar had on the same day as your daughter's flight. My bag went to Auckland because they had 2 flights running at the same time that day. I would assume it went on the wrong flight. If you can narrow it down and check the other ports - worth a try. I understand her pain, it's horrible.

theres a huge scam going on

theres a huge scam going on with jetstar employees where they take luggage at random then distribute the goods amongst those involved. its criminal and very sleazy. something really needs to be done about it.

thanx 4 your suggestions re

thanx 4 your suggestions re other airports - that was my first question 2 them - when they arrived at the int airp in sydney they were directed 2 an area where thet were doing manual check ins they lined up for approx 45 minutes n the lady in front of them asked where they were stayin in fiji??? they realised they were on the wrong queue......jumped to the line running parralel n were the last 2 check in - the women wrote my daughters bf name on the tag of her bag n said it'll b fine!!! ive rung every port u culd think of!!!! i dont think the bag ever left sydney......it hasnt been scanned anywhere!

If it was Pacific Blue maybe

If it was Pacific Blue maybe you should start by contacting that airline, and not Jetstar? Seems logical to me.
