flight cancelled via text message as taxi was in my driveway!

I was heading to Cairns Fri Jan 27 to Tues Jan 31 for a 60th big celebration. It was all to begin on Friday evening (my flight was supposed to arrive 5.25 (aporox Fri 27 in Cairns). We were having a gathering of friends that evening (bearing in mind I don't get to Cairns offten!). Then the BIG 60th was Saturday (Jan 28) evening(missed that). Then Port Douglas Sunday. Cairns Monday and leaving Tuesday. As I was waiting for my taxi to take me to Sydney airport I receive a text message from Jetstar to say the flight was cancelled! What!? If this was due to a staffing problems, surely there's a back-up of staff? (I realise it was Australia Day the day before and so a few sore heads to be had, but at the price of all your passengers? The first flight I could get was the next mornning, but my weekend was totally wrecked as I could not meet all our friends to gather on the Friday evening for the "welcoming"which was MOST important after not seeing them all in 4 years!!!

I asked to have another fare booked for February 24 returning to Sydney 27 Februaery, but no, this was not possible!! It is another Birthday party (3 of us actually celebrate on the 24th) I pleaded, but it fell on deaf ears!!! The supervisor, Greg Anderson in the Phillipinnes, said I would have to book another flight and definitely not at the price I had booked this one. I had booked ($267.00 return to cairns-sydney) I thought it was too good to be true!! Jetstar are giving me a refund and they say will take 15 days! When we buy a ticket it is instant payment!

I am so very regretful of choosing Jetstar as this was going to be a very special weekend in my life! Jean Sloane
