Weekend travelling in Australia

Last Updated: 30/09/2016 12:54 PM

Airports around Australia will be busy from Friday and across the weekend – with school holidays in many states, major sporting events being held in Melbourne and Sydney, and a number of public holidays.

Here are some tips to make your travel experience as smooth as possible this weekend:

  • Plan your travel to arrive at the airport at least one hour before your domestic flight departs.
  • Save time by checking in online before you get to the airport. If you have only have carry-on baggage, by checking in online you can skip the queues and go straight through security to the departures area.
  • Daylight savings comes into effect in many Australian states from Sunday, 2 October so make sure your clock is set to the right time before you head to the airport. Your itinerary lists the correct local flight times.

Please also note that employees from the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection will be taking industrial action across international airports between 26 September and 9 October so there may be delays through Customs. We recommend you arrive at the airport three hours before your international flight to allow enough time for Customs processing before departure.

We look forward to flying thousands of passengers across Australia this weekend and hope you enjoy your journey.
