Extortianate excess baggage charges

Some months ago my husband and I were flying to Beijing to commence a 1year overseas trip. As the flight left from Sydney we had a domestic sector from the Gold Coast to Sydney at 6am. A couple of hours before we left my husband had an accident and had some glass chips embedded in his arms and face. This caused us to almost miss the flight. We arrived at the airport (with my husband obviously distressed and covered in blood) and were told by an extemely arrogant and rude check-in chick that we had too much luggage. We asked if we could remove some if we could just have 5 minutes. This request was refused as the flight was supposedly about to close. However it was not too late to go and stand in a queue to pay excess luggage of $585 which took 15 minutes and the luggage was only sent once we had paid. For this they were prepared to wait for us.... When I suggested to the nice young lady who took our money that I was disgusted with the treatment I received from the check-in girl, she apologised and said we wouldn't be the first to complain?
We collected our luggage in Sydney and checked in to Beijing, we still had too much luggage and I did not disagree with paying $168 dollars. Jetstar sucks, $585 for excess luggage for a 1 hour flight from Gold coast to Sydney as opposed to $168 from Air China for a 10 hour flight from Sydney to Beijing. Get into the real world Jetstar and perhaps do some more training on customer service for your badly selected staff... I speak from experience as an ex check in agent at an international airport. You haven't got a clue about customer service and I would be the first to cheer if your unreliable, inefficient and badly staffed airline goes belly up.

You must have had a truckload

You must have had a truckload of baggage for it to be that price. Sounds like a typical case of a customer being in the wrong (not excusing the rude check in agent) and refusing to accept it, so why not blame the company. Jetstar charge $15 per excess kilo that you are over your paid luggage allowance. This rate is the same as Virgin Australia, and Tiger is $20 per kilo. If you're flying budget, sort out your baggage before getting to the airport because all budget airlines will sting you with this. Or just do the wrong thing, get stuck paying airport charges, and whinge on some pathetic website.

If the site is so

If the site is so pathetic....why the hell are you here so much Terri?

It's like a love hate thing.

It's like a love hate thing. It frustrates the hell out of me that people can be so stupid and blame everything that happens to them on the airline when its quite often their own fault/responsibility.

After Chris Brown's comment

After Chris Brown's comment about how often you are on this site Terri I decided to check whether his comment had any basis. The amount of responses you have posted indicate that either you are a Jetstar employee or affiliated with them in some way, in which case your responses to our complaints are seriously biased.

OR.... you definitely need to get a life, what a pathetic way to lead an existence.............. obsessively reading negative issues and then venting your even more negative responses. Therapy sounds like a good option for your issues and you might gain some positive results and find a less negative way to spend your time

terri i often read the

terri i often read the stories on here and you are ALWAYS pro jetstar i agree with jacqui and i can guarantee that if you went through any of the things that these poor people have to go through due to jetstars continious fuck ups and rude incompentent staff, you may not be so pro jetstar.

i agree with you chris why is

i agree with you chris why is she on here??? all she wants to do is stick up for jetstar which is what i find pathetic

If I had to pay $500 of

If I had to pay $500 of excess baggage I'd be pissed yeah. At myself for not pre-booking extra baggage, not at the airline. They charge the same excess baggage rate per kilo as other domestic airlines in Australia. Why are they being blamed for your stuff up? Air China is not a budget airline. Jetstar is.

I have flown on Jetstar for years and never had an issue. I guess I'm not a fool when it comes to travel though. And I'm not the one posting complaints on some random site. I'm not that lame.

and yet you keep coming

and yet you keep coming back....haha

Weigh your luggage BEFORE

Weigh your luggage BEFORE leaving for the airport. SOP.

2 minute late check in and

2 minute late check in and all I received was rude customer service, an $80 transfer fee and a "sucked in" type of attitude from Jetstar staff. Let me tell you Jetstar that all of this = a customer who will never fly with you again. Even if it means paying a little extra with Virgin I will do so out of principle. Absolute extortion!!!
