Grieving family stuffed around

In June 2009, my Opa fell fataly I'll in Melbourne, we flew over immediately but sadly he passed away 5 minutes before our flight took off. After the funeral we spent a couple of days with family before finding the cheapest flight home. We were booked on a 1:40pm Jetstar flight home.

We arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare before our flight, checked in and headed to the gate. The boarding time came and passed and it was around 1:20pm before the announcement was made that the flight would soon be boarding. We boarded the plane and left around 1:50pm and we were told the conditions in Launceston were great and we would have a flight time of 55mins. The flight was bumpy and we were glad to see the coast and be descending towards home. As we got closer we noted thick cloud covering the entire Launceston area, we entered the cloud and it got bumpy again, the seatbelt sign came on early and eventually the call was made for cabin crew to be seated. At this point we were still in the cloud but could faintly see the ground. As we got lower the fog got thinner and we could make out familiar landmarks. Just them the engines spooled up and we were piers into our seats, the nose pitched up and we climbed steeply.

When we were out of the cloud I saw we were going back over the coast towards the turbulent Bass Straight. 20mins had passed till we heard from the men up front who informed us we could't land anywhere in Tasmania due to the fog, and we were going to return to Melbourne and try again later. We landed back in Melbourne at around 4pm and sat on the Tarmac for an hour before taking off again towards Launceston, by this time my brother was rather distressed and cried half the way back. When we got to Launceston at approx. 6:15pm I noted on the arrivals board that our flight and the other 2 Jetstar flights were the only ones delayed. I was rather angry at this and vowed never to give Jetstar another cent of my money.

I would like to point out though that there was one junior flight attendant who was really friendly and helpful the entire time.

hmmm...as the developer of this site I thank you for adding your story. I don't however see why you would complain about Jetstar not landing due to safety concerns.
I'm sure if they could have landed they would have.

The Airbus fleet of Jetstar

The Airbus fleet of Jetstar is not equipped to land/take off in fog. It's possible that Virgins Boeing aircraft had no issue.

The reason I was a tad peeved

The reason I was a tad peeved was because out of the windows we could see the ground fine and all the other flights in and out (about 6-7) minus the Jetstar ones were running as normal

thats disgusting! stuffin

thats disgusting! stuffin around a greevin family like that! i bet da condishons were ok to land but they jus wanna con u out of more cash! the animals. neva eva giv them anything of yors again!
REM.

That is not jetstar's fault,

That is not jetstar's fault, the plane only has a couple of options, try a few times, or abort and return, fuel wise. And that is true, virgin blue on there Aircraft have a system that is better hadiling fog, and as the other complain on the homepage said: "Should have flown Virgin Blue".

But ohwell, thats mother nature.

wow remmy - Jetstar knows the
