Refused surfboard

On Wednesday I was flying back when I was told my surfboard (an 8' mini mal) would not be flying with me as it was too long. I had taken a longer board to Bali on Jetstar many times and so didn't anticipate any trouble.

It was abandon the board or abandon the ticket so I abandoned the ticket and went to Virgin who had no problem with board even though their plane is smaller.

From now on Virgin gets my business as well as anyone I can convince to switch.

I also notice that if you try and re-book a ticket you pay the $40 fee and the price offered on the proposed flight is higher than a new customer would pay. On top of this the default travel insurance option is to take insurance even though I have their Mastercard that covers travel insurance.

8 feet = 2.4 metres.
A surfboard, (including the surfboard bag), must not exceed 1.9 metres for Jetstar flights operated by an A320, A321 or B737 aircraft, and 2.77 meters for Jetstar flights operated by an A330. Surfboards will not be accepted for carriage unless they are placed in an appropriate surfboard bag. Surfboard fins must be removed, where possible, and placed in an enclosed compartment in the bag, or taped to the board.

Well it seems in this case

Well it seems in this case that Virgin can do the impossible.. better to fly Virgin I'd say..

Steve - See

It clearly states the lengths of boards for each aircraft. You probably flew to Bali on an A330.
You need to check these things before booking. Virgin don't use baggage containers. Jetstar do.

Yes EVERY airline charges a change fee. Virgins change fee is higher than Jetstar. EVERY airline also charges you the fare difference if the price of the tickets available is currently higher. It's not rocket science. Although I guess it might be for some...

Great Customer service

Great Customer service Sarah.. I'm sure Steve will reconsider and fly Jetstar next time after your helpful comments.. BTW How come Jetstar staff can reply so quickly on this website yet if you send an official complaint it takes a minimum of 15 working days?? Are Jetstar staff concerned about the effectiveness of this website?

Phil - I am not directly

Phil - I am not directly employed by Jetstar. However, as with my last post for:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/business/jetstar-flies-ahead-of-competition/...
I don't think they would be THAT worried about this website as the majority of customers have no issue, and view this website as operated by people with too much time on their hands.
Plus, it's my day off. :)

So typical. I too will

So typical. I too will convince many people to NOT fly with shitstar

Well Sarah you certainly have

Well Sarah you certainly have a bright future in Customer Service.. I'm sure you convinced Steve.. Seems like you can get a quicker/better response from those 'in the know' @ Jetstar on their days off via this website, than you can filing a legitimate complaint through official channels.. interesting..

I'm not in customer service.

I'm not in customer service. I'm not attempting to convince Steve. I am advising him of his responsibility as a customer before booking. And I also advised why it wouldn't have been accepted for a domestic A320 aircraft.
Most Jetstar employees don't know about or take no notice of this website as for reasons I just stated. I use it because I find it pathetic, yet amusing.

Actually Sarah... Maybe

Actually Sarah... Maybe blogging Jetstar on your days off can be your new career- considering the fewer staff Jetstar will be needing in the near future:

Yes thanks Sarah for making

Yes thanks Sarah for making Jetstar's terms and conditions clear for all of us to diligently obey. And a very good policy Jetstar has too! Not sure why anyone would want to take a surfboard to the Sunshine Coast anyhow.. Jetstar really has the finger on the pulse of the Australian tourism industry. We consumers are a stupid lot sometimes!

@sarah, i think we all know

@sarah, i think we all know who is pathetic and amusing...
but thanks all the same for proving our point. whenever u post on this site, its such a great indication of how shit jet star is, you quote policies in a lame and vain attempt to stick up for australias worst airline. what a joke. your comments just serve to discourage people from flying with the sad excuse you work for, but i suppose you dont see that. after all, you were smart enough to get a job with jet star, right? so youre definately not the cream of the crop are you... but i hear mcdonalds is having a recruitment drive.
stay in the kitchen,

Yes it's in the terms and

Yes it's in the terms and conditions - buried somewhere in the bit about checked luggage and bulky items - it took me about ten minutes to find it.

I just had the same problem- flying Ballina to Sydney. Jetstar told me I couldn't fly with the board, and I'd have to arrange for it to be shipped ...'no you can't leave it at the airport to be picked up, and by the way this flight closes in half an hour, please get your board out of the way so we can check other people in etc....'

Rex and Virgin check in staff worked together to get my board on the Rex flight to Sydney FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!! and Rex even called me afterwards to check I'd got my board back.

Jetstar and Qantas (I'm a Qantas Club member and I went and asked very nicely if I could wait in the lounge while I waited for the Rex flight to land- they very begrudgingly let me) were fairly unhelpful.

So yes Jetstar did what they were supposed to - the bare minimum, but after Rex and Virgin rode to the rescue I know who I'll be flying with in future.

In short pretty idiotic - I fly a lot for work, so they've just lost a tonne of business, all of which could have been avoided if they'd just made a token effort to help me, or been nice at the other end.

i would like to fly jetstar ,

i would like to fly jetstar , i travel a lot with my board , i was about to book a flight, my board is overthe max length, so i will just take my business elsewhere, no choice but too .
