tried contacting them to complain on the phone just before, they put me on hold for 20 minutes, and then said for me to email them and they'll reply as soon i send it , i sent an email, still no response
australia needs better airline services, this is ridiculous !

Apparently it takes them 15-17 days to respond to a complaint which is ridiculous because that's like 3 weeks+ which is kind of contradictory to their 'you will be surprised at how quickly we make contact' guarantee? I know it's time consuming but if you can you need to ring them every single day and ask to speak to a supervisor and make sure that they know you will keep at it unless the problem is solved. I did the same thing and got a phone call from some customer care person in about 10 or so days. Also I think it's a good idea to contact local authorities and your own legal representitive if you are ripped off big time and are keen to pursue this matter till the end of time. good luck and keep us updated!

I have been through hell and back with them...just keep posting on their Facebook page,,just be a nuisance and eventually they will call you..but you need to be persistent...email me if you want their head people email address...

3 points:

1 - Read your terms and conditions before you bitch about fees and charges with changing names. Name changes are not allowed by any other airlines in Australia (except on fully flexible/business fares) so you would be stuck purchasing a completely new ticket.

2) With the overbooked flight, it happens on every airline from time to time and yes its always a crap situation.

3) To Candice, its really not that bad. I've waited 2 months for Virgin to respond to me. Time to find something better to do than bitch about airlines I think.

Lia, if you must know, I'm a travel agent and I deal with all Australian airlines regularly. There's not a huge difference in them. They all have their issues. For some reason Jetstar and Qantas' issues get more public attention. People don't bother to read the conditions on their tickets before purchasing or before wanting to make changes. It's fucking annoying.

I am appalled with the service offered by jetstar. They are rude, inconsiderate and rip you off. I will be contacting the department of fair trading and writing an email every day until someone replies. How can they charge u 80 to check your bag? I know of people who have made the same mistake and they have been charged only 20 and 40 where is the consistency. I will certainly never make the mistake of booking with this airline again. I flew on virgin down here and there customer service was awesome. I hope jetstar goes broke.

Fair trading will do absolutely nothing for you. Jetstar's $80 fee has been in place for many years for people who purchase no checked baggage on their booking, and then turn up to the airport with oversize or overweight cabin baggage. It's also in black and white on their website, so it's not like they're hiding it from you. You need to do your research before whinging, or simply don't book in the first place.

The ones who you say were charged $20 or $40 were probably paying for excess baggage by the kilo. Virgin and Jetstar charge $15 per kilo, Tiger charge $20 per kilo, and Qantas charge per piece of baggage.
