News:
A JETSTAR plane bound for Perth was forced to turn around and return to Melbourne last night.
Despite reports of passengers hearing gunshot-like sounds, Jetstar said the mid-air turnaround was due to a hydraulics issue.

A Jetstar spokeswoman said flight JQ 972 landed safely at Tullamarine as a precautionary measure.

The flight had taken off at 4.10pm.

"As a precautionary measure, we decided to return to Melbourne," she said.

"The crew followed standard safety procedures, there was also a back-up system in place."

Passengers boarded a different aircraft that left at 8.32pm yesterday evening.

"There was no cracked window," she said.

The hydraulics system controls the landing gear and the autopilot.
