We recently flew with jetstar and being conservative flyers we took out the jetstar insurance ( I usually get RACV travel insurance).
The website and policy blurb indicated it would cover
baggage lost by jetstar :OK
cancellations due to illness, JETSTAR CANCELLING YOUR FLIGHT etc
additional accommodation and meals if flight delayed or cancelled.
Well THEY DONT EXACTLY DO THAT EITHER! READ THE FULL STORY BELOW
So after Jetstar cancelled our flight ( they were behind on the maintenance of the engines and CASA was investigating their maintenance schedule) and a two hour ($120 phone bill 1300 number on the mobile) we got given a seat on a new flight the next day ( we were happy with that).
We thought : Glad we got that insurance as it covers reasonable additional meals and accommodation : for the extra night forced upon us by jetstar! NOT SO.
Ahh HERE IS THE RUB.
Buried In the Fine print :
3.1 Your reasonable Additional Accommodation and Meal Expenses if Your Trip is disrupted
because of: cancellation, delay or diversion for Your scheduled transport caused by riot, strike or civil
commotion.
That Means ONLY RIOTS< STRIKES AND WELL RIOTS : NOT JETSTAR STUFFING THEIR MAINTENANCE AND CANCELLING/ DELAYING YOUR FLIGHT
So the Jetstar promoted insurance giant CHARTIS wont pay a measly $200 for our extra night food and accom.
