Did anyone buy a starclass seat to Honolulu yesterday on a plane that actually had no starclass seats?

Not enough paasengers on JQ3 to Honolulu flight on 5 May 2011. So Jetstar downgrade the plane, to a plane with no starclass seats, so they say. Starclass passengers are offered economy seats or no flight.

Worse still, yesterday Jetstar continued to offer full price Starclass seats on this flight, on a plane that apparently does not have any starclass seats!!!!!!!!

They don't usually downgrade

They don't usually downgrade a A330 service to HNL when there's too few passengers - because nothing other than an A330 in Jetstar's fleet can make that route with a load of passengers. No JQ A330s are unequipped with StarClass seats. Usually it's due to mechanical issues, and when that happens, in my experience a Qantas 767 is used as a charter flight. Whilst these have business class seats, there's not as many as the StarClass seats in the A330, and people invariably get downgraded - with options of a $500 refund and $400 in vouchers for passengers not on promotional upgrades, or being moved to the next available flight with StarClass seats. If it's still on the website, that's just slack

Yes - when I used to work

Yes - when I used to work there the only time this issue would happen would be due to mechanical issues and they used to charter a Qantas 767 which, as said above, has less business seats which means someone has to miss out. The ones that volunteer (or are made to change) are always given the option to change date, otherwise face being in economy with a refund of $500 and $400 vouchers. These are usually fairly full flights - Honolulu rarely goes on sale for that reason. They don't cancel them voluntarily as no other aircraft in their fleet can do that route. Chartering a Qantas aircraft is not such a simple operation.
It's possible it was still for sale on the website if it was not confirmed as a downgraded flight.

Consumer law in most cases

Consumer law in most cases states you can refuse the vouchers and demand cash if change if service or seat availability is due to the airline.

Yes we had the same problem

Yes we had the same problem except it was explained to us incorrectly. Thanks for clearing it up, but still not happy im in an economy seat.
