Excess Baggage

I regularly fly with Jetstar as I live in QLD and work part time with a rescue service based in Sydney.
I always travel light and always book the jet saver light fare.
I take on board a carry on bag and my laptop and have NEVER had any problems.
If my wife flies she carries a carry on bag + handbag
This evening I was forced to pay $80 in excess baggage fees because of my laptop bag.
I do not understand how this is so as I always travel the same. Why can a woman take her hand bag and a carry on bag yet I cannot take a laptop and my carry on bag?
I am extremely frustrated and more so that the fee was an excessive $80.
I calmly tried to explain to the lady my situation and the response I received “I don’t care”.
On another note, I was charged the change fee for my last flight. When I explained that I had to stay to cover a shift due to the crises in Japan I received a similar response.

How can they justify that cost, you can get 20 kilo's of checked baggage with Virgin for $12. (60 cents per Kilo) They should only charge you the weight you were over with regards to the hand luggage allowance. .

I have seen people bring hand luggage on to an aircraft that needs to people to put into the over head lockers, not that is wrong !! Lap tops weigh about 2 kilo's..

Its not excess baggage. It's an upgrade fee from jetsaver light to jetsaver. If your carry on baggage exceeds the size limits or weight of 10kg you can pay $40 on the phone otherwise $80 at airport. Choose jetsaver next time.

jack, thats exactly right the DON'T care. This woman was extreemly rude. When I asked to speak to another staff member she responded "he doesn't have authority over me!"
on top of all of this i have just received by phone bill and its over $300 for the month! Every time I call Jetstar I am on hold for at least 15 mins. I am on a cap (however, this does not include 13 numbers. Jetstar is a 13 number). The only reason this has gone over my cap is because of my calls to jetstar.

try calling with landline instead. and you can stuff your laptop in your bag at least pass check in
