I also find Jetstar's behavior unbeliavable. They cancelled my flight from Ho Chi Minh to Singapore on April 11 and the only way to get a refund is to call a number whose lines, alas, always seem to have a high volume of calls right at that moment. With waiting times of "more than 30 minutes" (which basically means "you rather give up"), I called in vain and now I'm in Spain, wondering how to sue Jetstar Asia. Not only they lie to my face saying it's a delay (when it's an obvious cancellation), now they don't even want to give me back my money! Unbeliavable. I had to buy an expensive ticket with Tiger Airways because I had no chance and now they don't even want to give me back the price of their own ticket, which was quite good.
So in 3 days, one flight was "delayed" and we had to take the 01:15 flight and the one from Ho Chi Minh was cancelled altogether and they offered a flight the next day (which was useless for me). Get this:
"Subject: URGENT! FLIGHT DELAYED.
Unfortunately, due to our schedule change, your reserved flight BL597/08 APR 2011 /DAD SGN/19:05 has been delayed. Please note your new flight time: BL8597/09 APR 2011/DAD SGN/01:15 "
What a coincidence, they flight is delayed for 6:10 hours, the departure time of the next flight. Does this mean they just cancelled it because they didn't sell enough tickets? I've heard of these practices and I'd love to know whether you've had a similar experience.

I forgot to ask whether is there any way for a European to sue Jetstar Asia.
This is becoming a common
This is becoming a common occurrence with Jetstar and has been forwarded to the Consumer Commission. On a number of occasions it has been noted that flights have been delayed to the extent that the next flight essentially becomes your flight.
An example is a flight from Christchurch to Brisbane was delayed 4 hrs and merged with the next flight to create a full plane.

Joanna - Yes. This is how budget airlines stay in business and are able to provide cheap fares to the general public. It is why the conditions state your flight time can not be guaranteed. In order to better utilize aircraft and keep costs low. If you don't like it, fly someone else.
