Ok my story goes a little like this. I live an hour and a half from the airport, Not that im making excuses but i was 35min before my flight time by the time i parked and had to then walk over half a km to the airport entrance. Checkin states 30min strickly but i was only 2min (28min prior to flight at 6.20am) shy of this check in time. Once at the check-in i was informed this had now closed for check in on my flight. And my flight was now boarding. This was a lie as the waiting lounge was full and not even the stairs where at the aircraft and unless people where jumping 60ft plus to get in i dont know how they where boarding. I was then informed that if i paid the extra $80 late fee i could be allowed on the next flight in 3.5hrs time. My original flight only cost $64 so i guess the extra was for my inconvieniance i must have caused them. Just a mention that the flight also left at 6.38am. 18 min late.. So i guess what they are saying is its ok for them to be 18min late but you cannot have 2min leeway and must pay an inconvience fee of $80 on top of your already paid airfair even thou i would not have delayed the plane or any person in anyway shape or form.. Cut price means cut in quality in service and professionalism.. OOh an if they can get you for some extra dough in the process to actually make it a dearer experience then there much better opposition they will throw that in too for good measure. Never will my money be spent on Jetstar.. Its not the first time they have stuffed me around but it will certianly be the last.. Go Virgin Blue for interstate travel. With over 60 flights i have made with them i cannot say a bad word about them.. Its a shame both my experiances with JETSTAR have been well below what i expect from a major carrier in Australia.. You got me twice JETSTAR but you wont get me a 3rd..

It is your responsibility to be at the airport at the recommended checkin time of 60 minutes. If you are there two minutes after the checkin time legally they cannot put you on that flight. The reason is because the Captain recieves the information on how many passengers and luggage will be boarding and carries out calculations to make sure that the plane will beable to fly. This is not only Jetstar but an industry standard. Even though Jetstar was departing 18 mins late they still wouldv'e arrived at the arrival gate on time because they calculate the expected flight time and add 20 mins on to that to achieve what the scheduled time of arrival is. The bottom line is that if you had been organized then you wouldv'e made the flight. I don't understand why you come on this website blaming them for your mistake. It only makes you look like sook feeling sorry for yourself. All I can say is that air travel is very simple, however retards like you make it look hard.

i live in maitland 40min drive to newcastle airport, and i fly to melbourne in january, and gold coast in april, july, october and january, jetstar was $40 cheaper for like all the flights BUT i always travel with virgin as they are always on time, great aircraft, service live'2'air and can i say, there cabin crew are hot! Only once last year i had to travel with jetstar and the flight was 40 minutes late, very old aircraft, cabin crew were sour faces, chewing gum all over my seat $6 for headsets to listen to a radio that does not even work, on virgin headsets are free and $4.95 for live'2'air but its free if the flight is 15 mins late or more. Hopefully your next trip with virgin is so much better than crapstar.

I must admit - even thou it does feel a bugger at the time...Jeststar was not to blame in this instance...I have posted on here before...and I will never fly again for different reasons...but fair is fair and as macca said this is standard across all airlines. Its your responsibilty to be there before the line closes. Even in the case where Jetstar are going to be a month and half late for your particular flight you must be there. Its mandatory so you can partake in the lack of info, lack of facilties and customer contempt they may care to to dish out while you are captive.

I agree, it is frustrating when people complain about some matters, but the fact remains that the majority of the issues and complaints raised on this website are legitimate. Jetstar has a poor reputation in the market place and it is apparent that the airline is working to reduce the volume of complaints.

I received an email request from Jetstar to complete a lengthy survey following my recent international flight. It was obvious from the wording of the questions that the public perception of Jetstar customer service is not good. Based on my recent experience, I rated them poorly. I will also be writing a letter of complaint because the airline deserves to know about the problems I encountered.

Once bitten, twice shy. If you have experienced really poor customer service with Jetstar, my advice is not to fly with them again, regardless of how cheap the flights may be. Virgin Airlines are by far a better alternative.

Macca hit the nail on the head. Regardless of whether the aircraft is slightly delayed or not, LEGAL documentation is printed off for the captain after the 30 min closing time. They are not able to alter this just because you are 2 mins late. The $80 fee is a transfer fee and Jetstar is not the only airline that has such a fee. I have once missed a Qantas flight when I was standing in line for close to 30 mins at 6am and no final check in call was made. Got to the counter and they made me pay for a new ticket (not a transfer fee, a completely new ticket). Go and tell A Current Affair, maybe they will be interested.

The manifest has your name on it. Check-in closes at the same normal time. Then at the boarding gate and they scan boarding passes and notice you aren't there, they leave. They don't hang around. Why would they on account of your dumbass for not being at the airport on time?
I was at the airport the other day, the bloke I was sitting next to on the plane missed his flight even though he was sitting at the departure lounge not paying attention. They put out two personal pages for him and he was pissed because he had to pay for a ticket change.
