Jetstar staff channel Barbara from bank world......"Not my problem"

Jetstar class an adult as 12 plus for ticketing, yet when I went to book my nearly 15 year old daughter and 8 year old son in, I was told the 14 year old wasn't old enough to supervise the younger one. Even though she is extremely responsible and holds down a job, no go. I qouted their "guide".........*Accompanying Passenger means a paying passenger who, in our reasonable opinion, can travel independently and is able to and will provide the appropriate assistance, supervision, or both, as is required for the particular customer they are accompanying. As a guide, Jetstar generally will not consider a passenger to be an appropriate Accompanying Passenger for a child unless the passenger is at least 15 years old...........
Jetstars reasoning: If perchance the flight was delayed or required a layover, my 14 year old did not have a credit card and could not book them both into a motel. Sounds reasonable, but the 14 year old was able to travel by herself! Am I missing something here?
Not only were the staff rude, they were unsympathetic to my plight and one of them actually said "Not my problem".

I would have thought it to be

I would have thought it to be common sense to not give such responsibility to a small child no matter how responsible they are. This doesn't excuse rudeness but it really isn't their problem.

Oh please has the above

Oh please has the above comment been posted by a Jetstar employee. I agree with Karen's comments, if a 14 year old is classified as an adult paying customer then she should be able to supervise her 8 year old brother on a short flight from Sydney to Adelaide. I think the real issue is that Jetstar are an unreliable airline and can not even guarantee a short flight without delays or layovers.
Customers need to show Jetstar that they have had enough with their service and stop flying with them. I certainly will never fly with them ever again and I only flew with them twice but it was two times to many.

Adelaide to Sydney is 2.5

Adelaide to Sydney is 2.5 hours. I would consider Sydney to Albury(45mins) a short flight, not sure about you. The point is, is 14 old enough. Think about it barring your rubbish about Jetstar being unreliable and whatever.

LOL, this "Anonymous" is

LOL, this "Anonymous" is clutching at straws here. Karen is right, this is just another example of Australia's worst airline cutting costs at every turn.

Personally I think a 14 year

Personally I think a 14 year old is plenty old enough to travel with a younger sibling like this- after all - within two years they could well legally be behind the wheel of a car. I believe in most states a 14 year old (almost 15) would be legally permitted to hold a part time job say at McDonalds or such- I know I did. My eldest daughter travelled alone on her first 6 week European trip at age 17- she'd saved the money herself by working part time. You should check if other airlines allow unaccompanied minors and use a different airline next time, and encourage others to do the same. Vote with your feet.
