Overweight baggage/Book domestic, fly Intl.

Overweight baggage seems to be a mayor problem for Jetstar .... or is it just another way for them to rip of their customers? To be penalized $165 for being 10kg's overweight seems a bit exploitative, especially when NO WARNING is given? (on a flight that normally sells for $80-100 ... well, at least before all their sneaky hidden costs)

Happened to me the other day!! A piece of paper was stuffed into my hands AFTER my bags were checked in and I was ordered to another counter where I was informed of my hideous crime and its severe punishment! I then understood why the check-in attendant looked like a bloody traffic officer (penning a parking ticket)!! What an idiot!! He actually enjoyed "catching" me. And I thought they are their to help ...

Then, after being forced to pay (bags were already gone and like most decent people I don't like causing a fuss) I learned I was actually flying Intl. Now normally that is very exciting because you get all kinds of free goodies ... a bit of wine, some snacks, movies? Not with these bunch of clowns ...

FLYING WITH THIS JETSTAR IS LIKE DEALING WITH CORRUPT GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN SOME GODFORSAKEN WEST AFRICAN COUNTRY!!

NEVER, NEVER, EVER AGAIN ... WORST FLYING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!

HOW THEY ARE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THIS KIND OF STUFF IS BEYOND ME??

Hi Arno, I’m sorry if you

Hi Arno,

I’m sorry if you didn’t realise that special conditions apply when you travel with Jetstar on a Starter fare.

It may be helpful to know, Starter fares are our cheapest fare type and cost less than Starter Plus or Starter Max fares because they don’t include a checked baggage allowance and additional extras. We do our best to make sure our customers understand they are purchasing our Starter fare, and we give you the opportunity to change to a different fare type or add baggage to your fare during the booking process. You have to acknowledge that you’ve read and accepted the fare rules before you can complete your booking.

If you later realise that you’ll need a checked baggage allowance or excess baggage on top of what you have already purchased, you can call our Telephone Reservations team and add baggage onto your booking. You’ll need to pay a fee, and complete the payment at least 3 hours before the flight departs, so that your new baggage allowance is reflected in our Reservations system. At the airport check-in counter or departure gate, our staff ensure that all items of carry-on baggage meet our requirements. If your carry-on baggage is too large, or weighs more than 10 kilos in total, you’ll be asked to pay a fee to have the item carried in the hold of the aircraft, this fee is higher than if you pre-purchased baggage before check in opens for your flight. For more information our baggage rates can be found here - http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/planning-and-booking/baggage/checked-baggage.

I apologise if our Starter fare rules made your journey difficult in any way. Still, I hope you’ll appreciate that we need to apply our fare rules consistently so we can continue to offer every day low fares to our customers.

Thanks Abbie

You blew it dude. u didn't

You blew it dude. u didn't read the terms and conditions and got greedy. Seriously - how could you think you take 10 extra Kgs on for free? Arrogant.

Abbie, Bet this is a template

Abbie,

Bet this is a template mail that you send to all clients who fall victim to the same scam - shame on you!!

Don't apologize - give me back my money!!

If I were given the opportunity I would easily have reduced my weight from 30kg to 20kg (amount booked) as I had a lot of unnecessary stuff in my check-in bags and only a light notebook (3kg's) in my carry-on bag! I was only informed about my penalty AFTER my bags were checked in and that to me is unfair. I also feel the penalty amount is excessive ($165 for 10kg's??) Why so much if it is not exploitative?? Finally the attitude of staff were quite militant and made me feel like a crook. If I had staff like that in my business I'd be bankrupt in a year!!

Bottom-line: I feel ripped off and you have lost a client! Plenty other airline to choose from!

I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS

I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS OVERWEIGHT!! THAT'S MY POINT!!

I would suggest that you

I would suggest that you weigh your bags before you travel. I just use bathroom scales - at least they give you an indication.

Thanks Cat, Where do you find

Thanks Cat,

Where do you find bathroom scales when you're traveling??

Anyway, once bitten, twice shy .... as the saying goes!

I'll definitely be more attend to my baggage weight in future!

That doesn't change the fact that Jetstar will not see me again - ever!

Companies that profit from stuff hidden in fine-print should not be allowed to do business!

After I was stung by

After I was stung by overweight baggage I invested in some luggage scales.
They are only about 3 bucks and well worth it.
I bought them off ebay.

You know they make commission

You know they make commission off excess baggage fees, right?

You msy aswell face that this

You msy aswell face that this is your mistake, and not blame everyone else.
Abbie stated all these things are in the T&c of the booking, and you didn't read it.
No one to blame but yourself.
