Point of view from a pilots point of view!!!

I am working for British Airways as a pilot..I was in Tullamarine the other day and I was shocked to see how dumb and ignorant an Australian passenger can be..to be able to bring a surfboard on board..you got to comply with the standard fixed length..this passenger was arguing with a stewardess..I just don't seem to understand..many Australians keep talking about facts and figures, law and order..I don't think Australians should fly or board any plans if they refuse to comply to rules and regulations..try riding on the kangaroos instead..

Way to toss all Australians

Way to toss all Australians in one bucket? We don't all live where the 'surf's up' - where I am you'd either be crushed against the cliffs or attacked by one of our many breeds of shark.

No question anyone who tries to take a surf board into the passenger cabin and not stow it in special baggage is an idiot, but that certainly doesn't mean that all Australians are and that we shouldn't be in the air.

I noticed that while a lot of the recent flamers here claim that /some/ individuals have been racist regarding Jetstar's Malay call centres (and indeed some have), they really aren't doing their argument any good by fighting back with only more racism.

Well.. Sometimes you do have

Well.. Sometimes you do have to fight fire with fire, right?

When it comes to insults,

When it comes to insults, what does that method achieve? To fight racism with racism - how does it all end? When one group finally breaks down crying because the other is 'B'AWW MEEEEAAAAAN'? When some authority on human superiority declares one right and one wrong? It's pointless. It doesn't get anyone anywhere (though it is entertaining to read).

If you want to counter their complaints, do it with logic. If you really are confident that you have the real indisputable facts then you don't need to resort to stereotyping and name calling in order to get your point across. Much like the users here that do the same (and I'm certainly not saying they don't exist - bad eggs, if you know what I mean) you are not making your argument more appealing to anyone.

Are all English like the

Are all English like the Football hooligans we see on TV?? Probably not. Are all Aussies like this guy? certainly not.. Did some passenger carry a full size surfboard through airport security and into a departure lounge at Melbourne airport? probably not. I've seen airport security staff reject oversize carry-on bags sending the passenger back to the check in counter. I can't imagine any passenger being permitted to feed a full size surf board through an airport baggage Xray machine. Frankly I'm amazed at the statements made on this website by Jetstar staff, airport ground staff and now a 'BA pilot'- they all seem to think in binary, making unfounded sweeping statements.

I am wondering why a BA pilot

I am wondering why a BA pilot is even at this site.

Please don't judge all

Please don't judge all Australians by this bogan. I would bet that their from either Perth or Queensland where they breed them a bit strange. Talk about strange, Phil you spend your life on this website. Slightly hipocritical to call a Jetstar employee strange.

I hope Martin McKeagan is

I hope Martin McKeagan is better at his maths than his effort to compose a few words in his native language. If he's not one day his passengers are going to be in deep shit from which Martin wont be able to extract them.

Macca - I think you're a bit

Macca - I think you're a bit dyslexic - I can't see any statement where I called Jetstar employees 'strange'.. there you go making up the facts again.. I did mention that they have a binary sort of thinking - what I mean is arrogant, uneducated and ill-reasoned black and white thinking.. you know like making statements like 'all Queenslanders are this' or 'people from Perth are that'.. I wouldn't use 'strange' to describe Jetstar employees.. 'simple' would be a good word, 'bitter' another.. 'empoverished' is probably also accurate seeing Jetstar pay minimum wage.. although most probably still live with their parents..

I came across this website by

I came across this website by accident and i am quite shocked to see how angry everyone is. Angry enough to create a website about it!

Ive fly with Jetstar about 3-5 times a year for a few years now and i have to say that i never had any bad experience with them. All contact i had with the staff have been pleasant and friendly. I especially love the cabin crew!

I understand this should be a website about relating your bad experience with Jetstar but i think many have gone overboard and even racist. I understand that you are angry at the airline, but do we need to take it out on everybody?

The way i look at it, im sure there are just as much/or more people who love Jetstar compared to those who hate it. No airline is perfect and everyone has their bad day. But i do know they have gone out of their way to help me before.

So maybe we can go easy on those poor Asians and focus on what the website is really about.

Happy Customer,
Alice
(and yes, i am australian)

Alice - this website has been

Alice - this website has been hijacked by Jetstar staff.. if you look at older website entries you won't see the abusive comments. It would appear that Jetstar call centre staff or similar have taken to bombarding this site with abusive and sometimes inane comments.

It's a good sign. the jetstar

It's a good sign. the jetstar rats have taken offense. good!
they wouldnt comment if they knew their airline was any good.
i am enjoying this bitter jetstar staff fightback, as lame as it is, it is slightly entertaining. good to see that even malaysians can use a computer.

Okay Phil you got me on that

Okay Phil you got me on that one. Here's another. You spend your life cursing and bagging Jetstar. You called Jetstar staff bitter and simple. Ditto yourself. If you know what ditto means, you can't argue with that evidence of your hippocrisy. BTW Jetstar is the second highest paying airline in Australia. I have evidence for that.

Sorry Macca wrong again.. I

Sorry Macca wrong again.. I am a happy individual.. I'm just doing my bit trying to get a large corporation to stop cheating customers for profits sake.. call me Robin Hood. Not nearly as good as the real Robin Hood- but it's nothing to write a comment on a website occasionally. And if what you say is true about Jetstar salaries- it's a trick with the numbers - because they don't factor into that statistic the salaries of the third party employees- call centre staff employed by other agencies, overseas employees and the like. Perhaps the pilots have it wrong in this article:
http://www.nationaltimes.com.au/opinion/society-and-culture/up-up-and-aw...
In particular:
"While they are offering the jobs to Australian pilots first, albeit on contracts that cut basic remuneration by almost 50 per cent, the remaining positions will be filled out of Singapore and Vietnam."

Macca It's not only customer service that suffers- it's safety - see what Australian pilots have to say:
http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-news/fasten-your-seatbelts-20101119-...
In particular:
"Captain Barry Jackson, president of the Australian and International Pilots Associations, summed it up as follows: ''The fear is that the trends we now see will place an over-loaded captain and an inexperienced first officer in trouble one dark and stormy night, and same as the Buffalo crew, not see the options available to avert a tragedy. It doesn't have to happen. Airlines need to decide whether experienced pilots are a cost or an asset. The Australian public had a safe aviation system in place; it is now being dismantled purely for reasons of cost. They deserve better.''

Everyone wants a bargain price- but that shouldn't neccessitate poor (sometimes rude) service by Jetstar staff, or cutting corners with safety. I'm not saying that every complaint on this website is justified.. but charging customers to change a booking that Jetstar have cancelled, or taking months to refund money, or taking 3+ weeks to make an initial response to a complaint is poor.

Hmmmm BA pilot huh? As a

Hmmmm BA pilot huh?
As a retired 747 Captain I see a few problems here...
Trying to get a surfboard on board?
If you are with BA you would have been operating out of the International terminal right? Even a domestic sector would have.....
They have, after 9/11, increased security at all airports but especially international airports yes?
Try and get a surfboard past check in?
Try and get a surfboard past security?
Get all the way to the door of the aircraft with surfboard in tow?
And this person was wearing big red shoes, big red nose and named Ronald?
And I've never seen ANY nationality trying to board a plan......plane maybe but never a plan.

This site is to chide Jetstar not to laugh at pretend BA pilots. (Although I did chuckle)
