Tired Jetstar pilots told to 'toughen up princesses'

A senior manager told Jetstar pilots complaining about fatigue from long shifts to "toughen up princesses" in a scathing email, a Senate inquiry heard today.

"You aren't fatigued, you are tired and can't be bothered going to work," the email said.

Excess fees for change of dates

I recently booked a fight for my daughter and her friend who will be visiting from South America. I booked from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast and discovered when the itinerary was sent that they had put the return date a month from when I had requested it. I rang to politely advise them that the date was wrong. I waited the 15plus minutes listening to all the promotional blurb. Guess what it cost an extra $50 per person to change what they had done as they said that they were not at fault.

Made an online change to a flight through Jetstars website. They charged my credit card for the change and emailed me an updated itinerary of the changed flight. Got to the airport, no record of the change on their airport system. Had to pay cash for a totally new ticket to make my connecting flight. Advised to apply for a refund through customer care. Sent in detailed fax of the events. Two months later Jetstar called (17th Jan 2011) ackowledging the mistake and asked for my credit card details and to expect a refund within 15 business days. 2.5 months later (30th March 2011) still no...

Frustration

Having been unable to fly last week, due to borderline pneumonia, I alerted Jetstar about 10 days before my departure date: I then faxed to them a Medical Certificate stating I was unable to fly. After 2 initial phone calls, I then phoned to say I had faxed the MC, was told they had not received it, and to call back next day: next day told to call back in 5 days, in 5 days told it should be 7 days.
As of 8 days later they still have not recorded my fax with the MC - how long does that take? This is going to go on and on and on I can see: don't hold out much hope for the promised...

Rip off company

I booked a flight for me and my sister to go to cairns for 3 days Saturday to Tuesday. Got a text from jetstar saying they had cancelled the Saturday flight-rang them and they had no reason why. I had to cancel my sisters flight and reschedule mine to the next day rearranging all my tours and the flights back with virgin blue. My sisters refund was meant to be in my account after 2 weeks-it's now been 4 weeks and I can't get through to them from the uk-the phone just says there is no reply. A company this size without email!! Does anyone know of another phone number I can use?

Changed flights

Booked six months prior to leaving on 28th March 2011.Suprise 40th birthday party on friday 1st April.Jetstar changed return flight from Saturday 1530 - 6000 am. resulting in not able to go to party because of having to leave hotel at 4am to get to airport.
No use leaving at 4am so jetstar have changed flight to friday at 1530.No party and a complete wate of holidays and exspense.
Thank you jetstar for our only holiday of the year ruined by cancelling Saturday flight.

its funny too see this website has been around for ages telling people how bad jetstar is, and the reason why you guys are still flying with them..?
because they are cheap. I use to work for jetstar and the amount of complaints that would come through via you customers saying I am never flying jetstar again, 3 months later they have booked 4 more trips and paid $50 each way, your paying for what you get.. hence BUDGET airline..?

CALLING CENTRE

jet star has the worst calling centre honestly im sick and tried of calling because they havent send me though the stuf that i need......... get a emailing system ..... or get ppl that can understand what im talking about....... or that can even do their job!!!! and ive called 5 time each time in the last week was waiting for 20min then i wouldnt get an answer untill 40min or so has passed come on...... your wasting ppls time

No Refunds

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there in similar situation as me. Our flight to Japan in October 2010 was postponed by a day. We were given a form to claim our out of pocket expenses for the inconvenience. 2 faxes, 8 calls, a written formal complaint and 5 months later Jetstar has still not refunded us our money. Hey I haven't even flown Jetstar yet and I already regret purchasing flights with them.

Booked a package Holiday through RAC travel to Bali from Perth and my family leaves for the holiday mid April.

Despite Bali being a surfing Mecca for surfers travelling from Perth, today I uncovered that JetStar imposes a ban on all surfboards over 1.9mtrs or 6'3 in the old scale. This is apparently because it uses a smaller A320 plane even though it's an international flight.

Lost Property

On a recent flight home from Bali my son left his Nintendo Ds XL in the seat pocket in front of him. We realised early and attempted to contact Jetstar within two hours of the plane landing with flight and seat number. Six phone numbers and four hours later no success with from anybody willing to listen. It's been seven days and I'm still waiting for a return call that was supposed to be within 24 hours. JETSTAR pilots are too afraid to speak out about dangerous overtime and fatigue risks because they are worried about losing their jobs, a Senate inquiry has heard.

An internal Civil Aviation Safety Authority audit of fatigue management at Jetstar, from May 2010, found there was a lack of evidence to demonstrate Jetstar was making appropriate fatigue risk assessment.

Excess Baggage

I regularly fly with Jetstar as I live in QLD and work part time with a rescue service based in Sydney.
I always travel light and always book the jet saver light fare.
I take on board a carry on bag and my laptop and have NEVER had any problems.
If my wife flies she carries a carry on bag + handbag
This evening I was forced to pay $80 in excess baggage fees because of my laptop bag.
I do not understand how this is so as I always travel the same. Why can a woman take her hand bag and a carry on bag yet I cannot take a laptop and my carry on bag?

Change of departure time

6 weeks ago i booked 3 return tickets for me and some friends from Brisbane to Proserpine, two weeks before departure they decided to change the departure time, my original booking was for 16:55, my new super improved booking (according to jetstar) was 08:10 am, I called jetstar to try and explain that my friends and I had to work during the day, could not leave earlier and did not want to postpone the flight until the next day as we had activity's and hotels booked. I was trying to book 3 return flights to sydney from the gold coast but needed to check on whether a mobility device would count as a wheelchair.......the overly "pleasant" voice assured me "due to high call volumes there are call delays of up to 30 minutes". my call started at 9.29pm, not usually a peak call time in my view. Rugby World Cup Flights

With the Rugby World Cup quarterfinal games in Christchurch now being moved to Auckland my simple request was to transfer my Queenstown Christchurch return flights to a Queenstown Auckland return flights and pay what ever extra cost applied only to be told I could change the date person travelling or time for $50.00 Aus. There was no way I could change my destination......unbelivable with 6 months notice!!!! Dont believe I will be the only person in this position.
